Keep Going!

“…but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Romans 5:3-5

One of our Shocker athletes showed exemplary character and determination in the meet at Baylor. Coach Rainbolt described it so well:

“Super impressed with Bryan Haney for bouncing up after a bad fall in the 400 meter hurdles and running hard all the way through the finish – I’ve seen a lot of athletes in my time that would have been completely defeated by a bad fall like that but Bryan rolled over and bounced up and finished the race even though it was unbelievably disappointing – way to go, BRYAN! I’m proud of you. BRYAN will be better going forward because of the way he handled that situation and he will be more successful as a result of it.”

I can almost guarantee you that when Bryan hit the track that his thought was not about how much it might have hurt. He wasn’t focused on what others were thinking or about embarrassment.

His focus was still on the finish line and getting there as fast as he could. There was no hesitation. He just kept going.

The “suffering” and disappointment that Bryan felt and handled in the way he did, showed perseverance and character that gave him the hope to continue.

“Heavenly Father, continue to strengthen us and prepare us for the challenges we face. May your Word be our guide over every obstacle and your hope be ours through Christ Jesus.” Amen

May His strength be yours!
