On Thursday evening at the hotel, an athlete said that he had dreamed three times over break that he had overslept and missed class. As humorous as that conversation was, that statement held more than a hint of anxiety.
I’m thinking that this athlete is not alone. The syllabi are lurking and the pressure is coming!Indoor Track is here and the competition awaits.
Fiery questions like “Can I handle it this year? Am I going to be able to live up to the expectations? What will happen if I don’t?!
A conversation with Dr. Purnell (Dr. DJ) was enlightening while at Lawrence. If you haven’t met him, it will be well worth just having a chat. He’s a great encourager and motivator. He is a former athlete and would love to get to know you.
Dr. DJ likened fear to that of facing a dragon. The dragon is there. It is real. We can try to go around it through denial or escape but, eventually, we have to look the dragon in the eye.
What does your dragon’s face look like? What is it that you fear? Whatever it may be, know that you do not face the dragon alone.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
”Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.”“
Isaiah 12:2
Let’s pray. “Father, We come to you knowing that you, within us, are greater than he who is in the world. Help us to:
”Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.“
Ephesians 6:10-12
“We trust in you to bring us through the fear and to place a renewed and strengthened reality in our minds of your working in our lives. You are here for us. You are fighting the battle. We put our faith and trust in You!”
Love you guys!
