When chatting in the cafeteria, when you are posing a question in class, when you are competing in a meet, what do you want others to see that is paramount?
What if others see God living in you?
“All who declare that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God.”1 John 4:15
This coming Sunday is the final Sunday of Advent in preparation of our hearts for Christmas and the celebration of Immanuel. “Immanuel” is a Hebrew word meaning “God with us” and expresses the wonder of the incarnation, that God “became flesh and made his dwelling among us” ( John 1:14 ).
We celebrate the four Sundays of Advent as we acknowledge that God brings Love, Joy, Hope and Peace to a broken and fallen world.
So how do people see God living in us? Yes, God brings Love, Joy, Hope and Peace TO us through Jesus. But He also wants others to see Christ IN us.
”But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23
If we acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in us. And this is what we want people to see that marks who we are as Christians. We want people to see an athlete competing at one’s very best, a student eager to learn with a teachable spirit, a friend willing to listen with empathetic ears. But most paramount is God living in us.
Let’s pray. “Father, without your presence in our lives there is a dark and lifeless void. Thank you for the Light that breaks through and reveals what your Spirit desires for us and the new life we receive through Jesus. Thank you for the peace brought to this earth through a babe in a manger. May our lives be marked with evidence of having received your Son as our Savior and of You living In Us.” Amen
Merry Christmas!
Larry
