August 21st ! Isn’t it a great feeling to start afresh? The etymology of “a clean slate” comes from Roman times when a “tabula”, a waxed covered tablet used for notes, was blanked (rasa) by heating the wax and then smoothing it out. The Apostle Paul, familiar with Roman culture, would have this picture in mind when he wrote,
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
What a great truth.
Let’s Pray: Father, thank you for new beginnings. Thank you that your mercies are new every morning and that we begin each day afresh with you and your grace. Be with each one of these athletes and help them to seek your face daily as they are encouraged and refreshed by your renewing Spirit. Go with them in their studies helping them to focus and discipline themselves to the tasks ahead. Help them to embrace the pressures of academia and trust in you as they work so very hard. May they honor you in all that they do. — Amen
Great to have you on campus! God Bless!
