“His whole character commands our reverence because it is superlatively Holy and His name to us is a word of awe never to be mentioned flippantly and never to be quoted without earnest thought and prostration of heart before Him.” – Charles Spurgeon
The word “awesome” comes to mind a lot when I think about you all or when talking to others about you. At times I fear that I may be overusing the word. But, you truly are a remarkable group of athletes who exude the embodiment of exemplary character, dedication, hard work and commitment that it takes to reach a Championship mindset.
As awesome as the accomplishments and character of people might be, they are no comparison to the Awe inspiring nature of God. I believe that God is impressing the reality of His presence in the heart of believers today. But, the acknowledgement of that presence needs to be received in “Awe.” We approach God in Awe of who He is, what He has done, all of His attributes and His Holiness.
If we are desirous of a deeper and more meaningful relationship with Him, we need to approach Him, “Standing in Awe”.
Whether you come to God in a 3 piece suit, the most glamorous gown on the rack or casually in a comfortable top and jeans. Posture is what matters to God. Posture of heart. Reverence and Awe.
Let’s pray together – “Holy, Holy, Holy are you, Lord God Almighty. There is no one like you. You are greatly feared. You are more awesome than all who surround you. Who is like you, Lord God Almighty? (Psalm 89:6-8) We seek your face this day with a desire to draw near to you. We need you today, Lord. We need your cleansing presence. We need to know that in spite of our weakness and failure that you will provide your strength and forgiveness.
Thank you that in your presence there is peace. In your presence there is hope. In your presence there is truth. In your presence there is guidance. In your presence there is love. In your presence there are exciting possibilities.
We love you, Lord and we Stand in Awe in your presence.” — Amen.
